Uploading Word and text documents, and importing delimited text files
Word (.doc, .docx) and plain text (.txt) files can be attached wherever a PDF or a spreadsheet could, and their text is read. A delimited .txt — comma, tab, semicolon or pipe, saved as UTF-8, ANSI or Unicode — can be imported like a CSV. Every file is inspected first, and a file that is not what its name says, carries macros or is a program is refused, on imports too.
어디에서 찾을 수 있나요?
- Attachments on any record, My Documents and the other uploads in Employee Self Service, Create from document, the files you attach in Help & Support and in Ask: “PDF, Excel, CSV, Word (.doc, .docx) or text (.txt), or an image (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP)”.
- Import on any list screen, Platform › Operations › Legacy Migration, importing configurations, quote configuration lines and sales order lines from a file: “Excel (.xlsx, .xls), CSV or delimited text (.txt, .tsv — comma, tab, semicolon or pipe)”. Import on a list also reads a PDF laid out as a table.
- You need whatever you already need to change the record or to import into the list; uploading adds no permission of its own.
Word and text documents
- A .docx is read from its text; a Word 97–2003 .doc is now read too. When an old .doc cannot be read the file is still kept: “The .doc is stored, but its text could not be read (it may be encrypted, empty or older than Word 97). Save it as .docx to have it read.”
- A .txt is kept as text and read as it was written (see the encodings below).
- Stored files are always handed back as downloads under the type their name says; nothing uploaded is opened as a web page.
- The size limit is the document store’s, 25 MB unless your administrator has changed it: “<contract.docx> is <31.2> MB and the limit here is <25> MB.”
Importing a delimited text file
- On the list, choose Import and pick the file — for example <employees.txt> exported from your old system.
- The separator is found by itself: comma, tab, semicolon or pipe, whichever gives the same number of columns on most of the first 20 lines (text inside quotes is ignored). A file with none of them is read as one column.
- The preview says “Read as delimited text.” Check the columns are matched as for any spreadsheet, then import. Nothing is written until you have seen what it becomes.
| Saved as | 다음과 같이 읽으십시오 |
|---|---|
| UTF-8, with or without a byte order mark | UTF-8 |
| Excel “Unicode Text”, Notepad “Unicode” (UTF-16 with a byte order mark) | UTF-16 |
| Excel “Text (Tab delimited)”, Notepad “ANSI” | Windows-1252: accented letters such as <é> and <ñ> are kept |
거부된 것
| The file | 당신이 보는 것 |
|---|---|
| A Word document sent to an import | “A Word document (.docx) is not a data file, so no rows can be imported from it.” Copy its table into Excel and save that, or save it as CSV. |
| A macro-enabled Word file (.docm, .dotm) | “This file is not what its name says, and was not accepted.” — save it as .docx and send that. |
| A .docx or .doc that contains macros | “This Word document contains a macro project. Macros run code when the document is opened, so it was not accepted.” |
| A .docx that is not really a Word document, or a .doc that is not one | “The name says .docx but the contents are <a PDF>. A .docx is a ZIP package.” |
| A .txt containing binary data | “The name says .txt but the file contains binary data (NUL or control bytes), so it is not text.” |
| A program (.exe, .bat, .ps1, .js and the like), or a program renamed as a document | “.exe files are programs. Uploading one into a business record is not something TRANXACT allows.” |
| An HTML page saved as .xls | “That file is an HTML table rather than a workbook or a CSV. Open it in a spreadsheet and save it as .xlsx or .csv, and it will come across.” |
These Word and text checks are made even when your administrator has switched file inspection off. On imports, a file the inspection finds dangerous is now refused — “That file was refused: <headline>” — where before an import went ahead; macros in an .xlsm or .xls workbook are reported but only its cells are read.
How to reuse: the values in angle brackets are examples — put your own file names, sizes and characters in their place. The messages are the product’s own words.
