Reversing depreciation charged twice
Accounting › Duplicate Depreciation lists the months charged a second time before a month could only be charged once, and reverses each in one step.
Until the monthly depreciation run was made to charge each asset once per month, pressing Run monthly depreciation twice posted two journals and added the charge to each asset twice. The first journal of each month is now the month’s charge. The later ones are listed here.
- Open Accounting › Assets › Duplicate Depreciation.
- Each row is one journal that charged a month again, with the journal the month stands charged by.
- Press Reverse this duplicate and confirm.
Reversing does both halves at once: the journal is reversed (dated in its own month while that month is open, otherwise today), and every asset on it is given back exactly what that journal added to its accumulated depreciation. Reversing the journal by hand under Journals would leave the assets overstated.
Seeing the list needs Display on Duplicate Depreciation; reversing needs Change. An empty list means no month was ever charged twice.
