Will this production order make money?
Manufacturing → Order Cost Projection: what each open production order is expected to cost, what it sells for, and a profit status on every row.
Order Cost Projection, under Manufacturing → Order Costing & Profitability, takes each production order, what has been spent on it so far and what is still to be spent, and sets the projected cost against what it sells for.
Where the estimate comes from
The estimate is the order’s own cost estimate where it has one. Where it has none, it is worked out from its components and operations, and failing that from the product’s standard cost — so projected cost, profit and margin are filled in for nearly every order. Where a figure truly cannot exist, the cell says why in words rather than showing a blank or a zero.
Profit status
Every row has a Profit status, and a note beside it (Profit status, explained) saying how it was reached:
| Profit status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Profitable | Projected margin above the low-margin line. |
| Low margin | Profitable, but under the low-margin line (10% unless your company has changed it). |
| Break-even | Projected to sell for about what it costs. |
| Loss-making | Projected to cost more than it sells for. |
| Not yet costed | No estimate could be worked out yet. |
| No selling price | Nothing it is sold for is known — typically an order made for stock, with no sales order. |
Going from a row to the detail
Each row links to what stands behind it: the production order, the sales order, the cost breakdown, time and cost confirmations, operation variance, order profitability and material issued. Only the screens your role can open are offered.
History opens the production order’s audit trail, with a "Back to …" link that brings you back to the projection where you were.
Rows can be ticked and downloaded like any list; the heading tick box selects the whole page.
