Tiles, group tiles and the folded dashboard
Why every tile in a section has its own icon, why the dashboard opens folded, and the pages that now open on a row of tiles with counts.
Tiles that tell screens apart
Every tile in a section carries a different icon. Before, the icon was chosen from the screen’s name alone, so a section of six lists about invoices could show six identical documents and the icon told you nothing. Now the icons are handed out across the section: each screen first gets the icon that says what it is, if nobody earlier in the section has it; a screen whose first choice is taken gets the next thing its name matches ("Payroll Tax Calendar" becomes a calendar once the percent sign is taken), then a related drawing, then one nobody else in the section is using.
- The icons are handed out over the order the section is declared in, not the order you see. Rearranging or hiding tiles under Personalize does not move anybody’s icon, so a tile keeps the icon you have learnt to look for.
- Within one section an icon is never used twice. A screen in another section may share an icon with one in yours.
- There are 160 icons, all TRANXACT’s own drawings. This site shows each screen with the same icon its tile has in the console.
A module’s home page
Every module opens on the same shape, white and quiet so the figures and the next action stand out: the module’s name and one line on what it holds, with Ask beside it for a question about this module; the module’s key figures in one strip; its groups as tabs; each section as a card of screens; and on the right the things done most — Quick actions to create a record, what needs attention, and recent activity.
- Each screen’s card says what the screen is in a sentence and shows the two or three numbers that say whether it needs opening today — how many records it holds and how many are, for instance, in draft or waiting for approval. Anything in a troubled state (overdue, failed, rejected) is drawn in red.
- A section with more screens than fit shows the first six and "View all".
- The section cards and the tabs above them can be put in your own order, and any of them hidden, under Personalize → Main tiles. When you have hidden some, the home page offers Show hidden (N) and Arrange this page. See Your preferences → The main tiles of a module’s home.
- Where a list has an active flag, its card counts Total · Active · Inactive. That is why "Active patients 903" and "Patients 904" can both be right: one patient is inactive.
- Module, section and screen titles are in Title Case; report column headings are in sentence case.
- A Quick action opens the list with its New form already open, and is offered only when your roles let you create that record.
- Ask on a module’s home opens ASK with your question and the module named, for you to send: anything that would change data is reviewed there first.
Every list opens the same way: its key figures first, then the rows. Press a figure to see just those records; a list of 300 or more opens folded under them. They come from the same query as the list, so they never show more than you may see. See Key figures above every list, and the calendar.
The console uses Inter throughout, as the TRANXACT.AI style guide asks. Anybody who prefers another typeface — IBM Plex Sans, Atkinson Hyperlegible for low vision and others — chooses it under Personalize, and that choice is kept.
The dashboard opens folded
"Needs your attention" opens folded: its heading, how many items it holds, and the chevron. The figures you came for are at the top of the page, and you still see that eleven things are waiting.
- Press the chevron, or the heading itself, to open a section.
- It stays open for the rest of that browser tab. Open a record from it and come back, and it is still open.
- A new tab, or signing in again, starts folded once more.
Delegate on "Needs your attention" works while the section is folded; pressing it opens the section as well.
Group tiles: see where things are and how many before opening them
Several pages used to lay every group out at once, so you scrolled to find the group you wanted and only then saw how much was in it. They now open on a row of tiles, one per group, each with a big number and the group’s name. Press a tile and that group’s detail appears beneath the row; press it again to close it.
| Page | One tile per | The number, and what else a tile says |
|---|---|---|
| Help & Support → Answers | Area: Across the platform, Accounting, CRM and so on | How many written answers the area holds. |
| Platform → Batch → Batch Console, the job library | Module | How many jobs; and "N cataloged, not built" where some are listed but not built yet. |
| The report catalogue | Report layer | How many reports are on that shelf. |
| Platform → Configuration → Runtime Settings | Settings group | How many settings, and how many are changed from the shipped default. A group holding an edit you have not saved is marked, whether it is open or not. |
| Platform → Assurance → Audit Policy | Area: Security, Master data, Transaction data, Configuration | How many things the area covers, and "N of M recorded". |
| Platform → Printed Forms | Document | How many form templates the document has, and which module it belongs to. |
| Platform → Access → Segregation of Duties, the red flags | Person, shown by their initials instead of an icon | How many duty conflicts they hold, and how many are still open. |
| Content Sources, Social Accounts, and Drives & Files: connecting a service | Kind of service | How many services of that kind can be connected. |
| Accounting → Financial Close → Close Cockpit, the phase rail | Phase: each step on the rail is a button | Lists that phase’s tasks. Until you choose one, it shows the phase the close is in. |
How the choice behaves
- The tile you pressed is kept in the address: ?tile= on most pages, ?family= on the connect-a-service lists, ?person= on the red flags and ?phase= on the Close Cockpit. Open a row, press Back, and you return to the same tile. A link copied from the address opens on it too.
- Everything, the first tile, shows every group at once, as the page was before. Its number is the total.
- A search shows every match, whichever tile was open, so a match in another group is never hidden. On the report catalogue the Pinned scope shows everything as well. Pick a tile afterwards to narrow the matches to one group.
- Until you pick a tile, the page shows only the row and asks you to choose one. The numbers on the tiles account for everything on the page.
This site uses the same tiles. A module page opens on a row of group tiles, each with the number of screens in that group, and pressing one takes you to the group further down the page.
