Set up an EDI trading partner
Exchange purchase orders, acknowledgments, ship notices and invoices with a customer or supplier in X12 or EDIFACT.
A trading partner is a customer, supplier or carrier you exchange EDI files with. The partner record says which standard and version they use, the interchange IDs on both sides, the separators, and the connector the files travel over.
- Open Supply Chain > Electronic Data Interchange > EDI Connectors. Every company has a SANDBOX connector that keeps each file to download; add an AS2 or VAN connector when the partner gives you an address, then use Store secret for its password or key.
- Open EDI Partners and press New. Choose the type and link it to the customer, supplier or carrier record.
- Choose X12 (004010 or 005010) or EDIFACT (D96A or D01B), enter your interchange ID and theirs with their qualifiers, and check the separators match their implementation guide.
- On the customer or supplier site, set the invoice or order delivery method to EDI. Documents for a party whose site says email are not sent by EDI.
- Optionally add EDI Document Maps to say how items are named and whether an inbound document is processed on arrival or held for review.
Control numbers (ISA13, GS06, ST02, UNB and UNH references) run per partner and never repeat. A partner rejects a reused number, so do not edit them by hand.
