A company’s people, wherever they were recorded
The Contacts section of a lead and of an account lists everybody known at that company, and says where each one is recorded.
People at the same company get recorded in more than one place: the person named on a lead, the people added to its Contacts, and a second lead somebody opened for the same company because a different person got in touch. The Contacts section brings them together.
On a lead
CRM → Sales → Leads, open a lead. Its Contacts section lists:
- The people added to this lead’s Contacts, which you add, change and delete here.
- The person named on the lead itself. Change that person with Edit at the top of the lead.
- The people on any other lead for the same company name or the same web address, whether named on that lead or added to its Contacts.
The Recorded on column says where each person lives — this lead, named on this lead, or another lead for this company with that lead’s status and the day it was added. A person recorded elsewhere is shown here read-only and is changed where they are recorded. Somebody with the same email address is listed once.
On an account
An account now has a Contacts section of its own. Add, edit and delete the account’s contacts there — first and last name, name in native script, title, email, phone and whether marketing consent was recorded. It also lists, read-only, the people on any lead for the same company name that has not been converted yet.
Country, state and the other lists
- Country is a dropdown on leads, lead contacts, accounts and prospects.
- State / province lists the states of the country chosen. Choose the country first; where a country has no list, the state is typed.
- Lead owner is chosen from the company’s people, and Ownership type from Public, Private, Subsidiary, Government, Partnership, Non-profit and Other.
- SIC code and NAICS code appear on a lead only when its country is the United States, Canada or Mexico — they are those countries’ industry classifications — or when the lead already holds a code, which is kept.
A value imported or typed before these were lists — a country spelled "USA", an owner’s name, a state — is shown on Edit as it was recorded and kept, rather than appearing blank. Pick from the list when you want to correct it.
Converting a lead into an account puts the account in the lead’s country where the country list recognizes it — by name, code or a common spelling such as USA — and in the company’s own country otherwise.
