Importing the hierarchy from Excel, CSV, Word or a picture

Import hierarchy reads a table of employee and manager, shows what it will change, and applies the rows you keep as one change you can undo.

The file needs one row per person, with an Employee column and a Manager (or Reports to) column. Each can hold a personnel number, an email or a name, for example <EMP-000012>, <asha.rao@example.com> or <Asha Rao>. Department and Position columns are optional. CSV, Excel (.xlsx, .xls) and a table in a Word document (.docx) are read. A picture of an organisation chart (PNG, JPEG) is read by the company's AI engine into the same table.

  1. On the Organisation Chart choose Import hierarchy.
  2. Choose the file, then Preview (or Read the picture for an image).
  3. Check each row: Will change, Already so, Not found (pick the right person; suggestions are offered), Which one? (two people share the name), Would loop, Cannot.
  4. Tick or untick rows, then choose Apply <12> change(s). Every row is made together, or none is.
  5. To reverse it, choose Undo in the message or Undo last move in the toolbar.
  • A blank manager means the person is top of the chart, reporting to nobody.
  • A position that matches exactly one position by code or title is set too; a department that differs is pointed out but not changed, because the department comes from the position.
  • A picture needs an AI engine that can read images (Platform, AI providers). With none configured the screen says so; upload the table instead.
  • An old-style Word .doc must be saved as .docx first.
