How the student risk score is worked out
Student Success & Retention gives each student a score, a band and the reasons with their points. Some readings are serious on their own and set the band whatever the total, so a student missing most of a course is high risk, not 'no action needed'.
- Attendance is read section by section on the school's Alert Rules; the worst section counts. Under the critical line: +35 and high risk on its own. Under the minimum: +20 and at least medium. Absences in a row: +15, at least medium.
- Failing grades this term: one is +15 (at least medium), two or more +30 (high on its own).
- GPA under 1.5: +35 (high); under 2.0: +30 (at least medium); under 2.5: +10.
- Open alerts raised by staff or by grades: by severity, a critical one makes it high on its own. Alerts raised automatically from attendance or fees are not counted a second time.
- Fees count when they are overdue (+10, or +20 and at least medium after 30 days), not merely billed.
- Academic standing: suspension or dismissed is high on its own, probation at least medium.
- Missing work: more than 2 pieces +10, more than 5 +20 (at least medium).
The band is high at 60 or more, medium at 30 or more, or the floor any single reading sets, whichever is higher. The Why column says what decided it. Recommended action: high, advisor outreach this week; medium, flag for advisor review; low with something recorded, keep watching; nothing recorded, no action needed.
