Duplicates, quality rules and merges
Platform, Data Quality lists the customers, suppliers, items and employees that look entered twice (found weekly by name similarity and shared email, phone, website or tax number), the quality rules good master data keeps, and what breaks them.
- A quality rule is one field and one test: required, a format (a pattern), a range, or a reference to another master or a configuration list. A rule that cannot run is refused when it is saved.
- Findings close themselves when the record is fixed and the rule is checked again.
- Propose merge on a duplicate pair raises a merge request with a preview of everything that would move.
- A data steward who did not propose it opens Merge Requests and presses Approve and merge. Every reference moves to the record that stays, in one step; the other record is kept, inactive.
- Undo merge points the moved references back and makes the record active again.
Employee records are scanned but not merged here: pay, tax and leave history is kept per record. Resolve two records for one person in HR.
