Submit claims electronically and post remittances
Submit writes an X12 837 and sends it to the clearinghouse. Acknowledgements update the claim; an 835 remittance is posted to it automatically and reconciled.
- Build the claim as before (Revenue Cycle > Claims > Build a claim).
- Press Submit with How set to edi. A professional claim is written as an 837P, an institutional one as an 837I.
- Watch the claim's EDI status: sent, then ack accepted (999), then payer accepted (277CA). A rejection names the reason.
- When the 835 arrives (EDI Files > Receive a file, or the clearinghouse), it is posted at once: the payment, contractual adjustments and the patient's share.
- Open Remittances > Reconciliation to confirm that the payment equals the claims paid less provider-level adjustments.
- Check eligibility on Insurance Verification sends a 270 and writes the 271 answer onto the policy: active or not, copay, deductible and what is left, coinsurance.
- Interchange and group control numbers are counted per clearinghouse and never reused.
- Paper claims still work: choose paper on Submit.
