Correcting a Saudi invoice: cancel the draft, credit the issued invoice
Under ZATCA an invoice gets its official number only when it is posted. A draft can be cancelled; a posted (issued) invoice is never cancelled and is corrected with a credit note.
- A draft carries a provisional DRAFT- number. Cancel it with Cancel; no number from the invoice series is used up.
- A posted invoice has been issued. Cancel and Reverse are not offered for it. Use Issue credit note on the invoice: enter the reason and the lines to credit, then post the credit note from AR Memos to issue it.
- If a draft was given a number from the invoice series before ZATCA was switched on and was later cancelled, that number is withdrawn and the cancelled draft takes a DRAFT- number. The withdrawn number is recorded with the reason, so the gap in the series is explained to an auditor.
