Materials held for a production order

Releasing a production order reserves its materials; issuing uses the reservation up; finishing or cancelling the order frees what is left.

A reservation holds stock for a purpose, so it is not promised twice. Manufacturing → Material Availability → Material Reservations lists them: what is held, for which order, how much is reserved, issued and still held.

Reserved on release

  • Releasing a production order reserves its components. The message says what could not be reserved — a component short in the warehouse, for example — so you know before anybody goes to pick it.
  • Orders released before this happened automatically have Reserve materials on them. Press it once to reserve what they still need.
  • Issuing material to the order uses its reservation up.
  • Completing or cancelling the order frees whatever is still held.

Reservations made by hand

A reservation made on the screen must name its sales order or production order, or say its purpose in Notes when it is for no order. Those for no order are marked in the No order column, so stock held for nobody in particular can be found and reviewed.

Cancel reservation frees the stock a reservation is holding. Anything already issued stays issued.
