Quoting a configured product
A quotation line that names a configuration is priced, described and checked by that configuration: its price is the configurator's, its description is the answers, and it follows the configuration until you give it a price of your own.
- Open the quotation, go to Lines and add or edit a line for the configurable item (for example TG310).
- Under Configuration, choose an existing configuration or press Configure and answer the questions, then Use this configuration.
- Unit price fills in with the configuration's price for the line's quantity, in the quotation's currency, and an empty Description fills in with the configuration number and its answers.
- Save the line. The grid shows Unit price and, beside it, Configured price.
- The price is worked out the way the model says: a cost-plus model (TG310, TG100, TW310) from the structure its answers resolve to, plus its markup; a list-priced model from its base price plus each chosen option's surcharge, including options another answer brings with it.
- Change answers on the line and the line follows: its price, its total, the quotation's total and the description are updated. No second line is added.
- Type a different unit price and the line keeps it; Configured price still shows what the configuration sells for. Empty the unit price to take the configuration's price again.
- A configuration is sold once: the same configuration cannot be on two lines. Copying a quotation copies its configurations, so the copy can be changed without changing the original.
- A configuration of another item, of another company or one that was cancelled is refused on the line.
- Since 14 October, a quotation in the model’s own currency is priced without asking for an exchange rate, even where the model’s Currency was typed as a name (Indian Rupee is read as INR).
- Since 14 October, people who may see the configurator’s Cost Sheet get Cost and price in Configure (bill of material, routing, cost by kind, Markup % or Selling price each, Margin, Use this configuration at <price>), and the lines show Unit cost and Margin %. See Cost and price of a configured quotation line.
- Several configured lines can be added at once from a spreadsheet with Configured lines from a file… on the Lines tab. See Configured quotation lines from a file.
A quotation with a configurable item that has not been configured, or whose configuration still has problems, can be saved as a draft but cannot be sent to the customer or accepted. The message names the line; press Configure on it and answer what is left.
