What the Next step on a change request means

The Next step on a change request follows its review board: Assign approvers while a step has no approver, Sign while a step is left to sign, Decide once every step has answered.

  • Draft: Submit, once the request names the item or the document it is about.
  • A step shows No approver assigned: Assign approvers, after the Change Board says who signs it.
  • Steps left to sign: Sign, for the step's approver. The person who raised the request sees Withdraw instead.
  • Every step has answered: Decide — approved, rejected or deferred — by somebody other than the person who raised it. The Justification is required to reject or defer, and whenever the decision goes against what the board signed.
  • Approved, rejected, deferred or converted: the rule that whoever raises a request does not sign or decide it stays on the record.

The decision, on the record

Once decided, the request shows who decided and when, what the board said, whether the decision overrode the board, and the justification. All of it is in the request’s history too. A change order converted from the request records it under ECR Became.

Needed by, Due, and overdue requests

  • The Change Requests list shows Needed by and Due, and can be sorted and filtered on both.
  • An open request past its Needed by date carries a red overdue tag. Days overdue can be added from the column picker.
